Data Protection - Our Shared Responsibility

We often handle personal data, both staff and students. As a statutory board, NP staff are required to abide by the Personal Data Protection rules in the government Instruction Manual (IM). There are 4 broad areas to take note of:

• Collect, Use and Disclosure
  When collecting personal data, the purpose of collection, how we intend to use the data and with whom the data may be shared with, shall be made known clearly to the individual providing the data.


• Care of Personal Data
  We must ensure that the personal data under our custody is properly kept and secured to prevent unauthorised access and misuse. We are also to ensure that the data is properly disposed eg. shredded or securely wiped immediately after its intended use. We should not recycle the personal data collected for future use.


• Access and Correction
  Allow the individual to access and correct personal data he/she provided to NP.
  

We have recently completed our Mass Briefing on Data Protection in Mar/Apr 2015. Briefing slides are available for your reference here.

The revised Data Protection Manual is being updated with more NP examples and notes from the Mass Briefings. Targeted release is in Q3 of the year.

Microsoft Lync 2013

Microsoft Lync 2013 is now available for staff.
Collaborate with your colleagues with this collaboration tool.

Desktop version has full functionalities for the creation of groups, Online Conference, Chat and Call. The mobile app from the apple or google app store has less functionalities but is good to exchange text messages, call and participate in online conference.

Identify Phishing Attack

Hackers often try to steal sensitive information online by pretending to be a trustworthy entity. This attack is called "phishing". Knowing how to identify a phishing email or electronic message is important to protect yourself. Take the phishing quiz here.

MeL in the Cloud

MeL has upgraded to Cloud. Below are some changes to note.

• Log in to MeL

Enter your full NP email address (e.g. abc1@np.edu.sg) and NPNet password to log in to MeL.

• Log out of MeL
  
  Click on at the top to log out of Office 365 first, then click on the icon on the top right corner to exit MeL. To complete the logout, close your web browser program

System Maintenance

Sat, 9 May 2015, 10am to 1pm

The campus wired and wireless network at Blk 72, Blk 71 and Blk 54 will be unavailable during the maintenance.

Gebiz and Government Intranet will not be accessible during the maintenance.
