Network Access Control (NAC)

To enhance the network security on our staff WIRED network in the offices, NP is in the process of implementing Network Access Control (NAC).

With NAC enforced in offices, anyone connecting their computers to the wired network in the Office, will be prompted for their NPNet UserID and Password.

As NPNet is connected to the Government network, NAC is a IM8 policy requirement to prevent visitors and unauthorised devices from accessing the staff wired network. They may use the Wireless Network. Sch /Dept secretaries have been issued NPNet Guest accounts.

The implementation is done in phases. So far, NAC has been implemented in CC, HS and LSCT. CC is working with the IT reps in the remaining Sch /Depts to implement NAC from 4 Nov 2015. The exercise is targeted to complete by Apr 2016.

NP Staff VPN FAQs

The NP Staff VPN was upgraded in Oct 2015, to comply with the new IM8 IT Security policies and to provide support for the latest Mac Yosemite OS and Windows 10 OS.

The web address (URL) for the VPN is still accessible via the web addresses below:

IT Security Awareness

IT Security Awareness briefings are here again in December!

Staff are required to attend the briefing at least once every 2 years and new staff should attend any of the 6 sessions scheduled in Dec 2015.

The briefing serves to refresh us of safe IT practices and NP's Acceptable Use Policy. The briefing also helps staff to prepare for the annual IDA Infocomm Security Awareness Survey in Jan 2016.
