Data is the important aspect of your computer. The operating system and applications can be re-installed, but it may be difficult or impossible to recreate your original data.

Back up your computer data on a regular basis.

• Copy the data to portable storage medium such as DVD, thumbdrive or external hard drive.
• Store them in a safe place.

Use WiFi safely while travelling

Many hop on to free WiFi connection at public places like airport, hotel and cafe while travelling overseas.

The main risk when using a hotspot is having someone track your online movements via the network you are logged on to or trick you into using a 'fake' hotspot.

Here are a few tips to keep your sensitive information safe.

• Make sure the network is legitimate and encrypted. Ask relevant staff to confirm the name of the wireless network. Use a network that is locked and password protected whenever possible.
• Switch off the wireless connection when you are not using it.
• Use VPN if possible.

Alternatively, consider obtaining a data plan from your mobile service provider for auto-roaming.
